Local & Regional Rail Freight Transport

Scope

The Committee is concerned with the spectrum of issues related to rail freight transportation on a local and regional basis, as provided by Class II and Class III railroads and the feeder lines of Class I railroads.  Among the Committee’s areas of emphasis are relationships between railroads, including the impacts of mergers; demand for local and regional freight services, including intermodal traffic; maintaining the long term viability of local railroads; integrating rail transport into state and local transportation planning processes; highlighting private and public investment strategies, including public/private partnerships; assessing regulatory issues and impacts; and promoting implementation of new technology.
